NATIONAL GAMBLING BOARD CLARIFIES REGULATORY POSITION ON REMOTE GAMBLING SERVERS (RGS)

The National Gambling Board (NGB) has issued a formal notice to all Provincial Licensing Authorities (PLAs) clarifying the regulatory status of Remote Gambling Servers (RGS) in South Africa. The notice, issued in terms of sections 33 and 34 of the National Gambling Act, 2004 (Act No. 7 of 2004) (the NGA), provides guidance on compliance obligations in respect of remote gambling infrastructure and applicable technical standards.

National Gambling Amendment Bill of 2016

Cabinet has on 14 September 2016 approved the draft National Gambling Amendment Bill of 2016 for wider public comment. The Bill addresses challenges hampering effectiveness of the National Gambling Act, 2004 (Act 7 of 2004).

National Gambling Awareness Roadshow

The Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) in collaboration with the National Gambling Board (NGB) will undertake a national education roadshow to create awareness among members of the public about responsible gambling and the socio-economic consequences of gambling.

National Gambling Policy, 2016

The Minister of Trade and Industry, having obtained Cabinet approval on 17 February 2016, published the National Gambling Policy 2016, as the final approved policy document.
